Do you ever ask a question out loud to someone, and then immediately answer it yourself without need them to speak? This happens to me all the time.
I know I’m not alone, and last week I learned a new term for it.
‘Rubberducking’ is a hack in software development, and is the act of describing a coding problem to an inanimate object that won’t judge you, that often leads to finding the solution just a few moments later.
For many of my coaching clients (and me with my coach) the opportunity to think out loud, with someone who’s not attached to the situation or the outcome, is a gamechanger for them.
It helps them connect to their own wisdom, and find their own answers.
It’s just one of the reasons why coaching is such a gift.
I’d really recommend getting your own rubber duck for those moments when it would really help to think out loud.
And of course, it doesn’t have to be a duck, but I am loving my new office companion :-)
Wishing you all a great week,
