The benefit of taking it one week at a time

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the scale of something? And then feel so overwhelmed that you don’t know where to start. And so, don’t?

For months (more than a year?) my husband and I have meaning to put together an evening meal plan for our family. We share the cooking, and it makes a big difference not to have to figure it out from scratch each day.

We know what we need, we know it will help, and yet… we haven’t done it.

When we explored what’s kept us stuck, we realised we’ve been making the challenge too big. In trying to solve it all at once and design a perfect solution, we have got lost in questions and scenarios (even how to format it).

The answer – a post-it, for this week, Monday to Friday.

Of course, the irony is that I use this approach as a coaching tool all the time. Narrowing the focus, identifying a small step, and designing the way forward from there. It’s a reminder to start from where you are. To not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

What would you do if you didn’t need to figure it ALL out right now?

What if you just needed to work out what to do next week?

Wishing you all a great week,
