Could you use a restorative pit stop?

A picture perfect snowy vista in Yorkshire. A deep clear blue sky framing a patchwork of snowy peaks with patches of green in the distance. Close up a snowy field with tractor tire tracks curving through it.

Last week I spent a chunk of time back in Yorkshire on retreat.

The same venue, another brilliant group of women, another transformative experience to absorb and reflect on.

Usually I drive straight home afterwards, using the 5-hour drive to decompress before returning to my everyday life. This time I pit stopped with a friend for a night.

What a gift!

We spent the day moving from comfy place to comfy place, accompanied by hot drinks and her fabulous animals.

We took the dog for a walk, immersed in fresh air and incredible views.

We mooched and pottered and chatted - lovely relaxed time in each other’s company.

It was a brilliantly restorative pit stop that created a space in between where I’d been and where I was going.

So often we can move straight from one thing to another without stopping. There’s always something coming next, and often we’re rushing to meet it!

A restorative pit stop - of any shape and size - can help us pause between one experience and the next.

While we will rarely have the luxury of a full 24 hours, even a moment to clear our head can be a game changer.

Perhaps creating practical scheduling gaps, or brain dumping our thoughts between one meeting and another?

Maybe taking 10 minutes in the morning or evening to journal out the day, or a quiet coffee between tasks?

We’re all different, and can experiment with what works for us in our everyday lives.

Could you use a restorative pit stop?

Perhaps a longer one to recharge your batteries, or a series of smaller ones to smooth the path through your days or weeks?

And are there a few you’d like to test drive this week?

Wishing you the gift of a restorative pit stop,
