10 reflective questions for a summer break

A photo of 5 year old Caroline on holiday. She is standing on a flat rock at the edge of a stream, with trees behind. She is wearing a blue, green and white patterned dress, white knee socks and T-bar shoes, and has both hands on her forehead.

For the next few weeks, I’m taking a summer break.

It’s a lovely time to step away from my everyday life, to have a change of scene and of rhythm, to pull out and see things from a different perspective, to move at a different pace, to explore new places.

It’s also the perfect time to reflect on some questions that need a little more spaciousness to noodle on - either in a focused way with pen and paper in hand, or percolating quietly in the background of my brain while I’m doing something else.

So, in place of a reflection this Monday, here are 10 reflective questions. I’ll be taking them with me - and if you like you can too. Maybe all of them, or pick and mix, or use them as a springboard to create your own :-)

  1. Where do I really need to focus my time and energy right now?

  2. Where am I overcomplicating something that wants to be simple?

  3. In a year’s time, what would I like to be the same in my life, and what would I like to be different?

  4. If my life were a movie, what would the audience be screaming at the screen telling me to do right now?

  5. Who are 5 people that I would love to reconnect with?

  6. Where am I the exception to the rule - in a good way?

  7. If I could get an outcome that was too good to be true in one area of my life, what would it be?

  8. Who do I most appreciate being in my life, and why?

  9. Where do I want to take myself more seriously, and where do I want to lighten up?

  10. If 5 year old me could see me now, what would they be most delighted about?

Happy reflecting, and wishing you some spaciousness to let your thoughts breathe,
