…how can you let the rope do the talking?
Last summer my sister and I spent a day in London with my mum, celebrating her 75th birthday.
It was a complete treat. A proper afternoon tea and The London Eye, with a visit to Covent Garden in the middle to visit the Charlotte Tilbury store and find a great lipstick.
The experience was magical.
Fabulous service, feeling spoiled and laughing a lot, leaving with absolutely the right thing.
But first, waiting to be invited in.
It was still a time of waiting outside shops to manage the capacity inside. It could have felt irritating, and as though we didn’t matter.
And yet it felt luxurious - even exciting - to wait to be invited into a very special place.
There was a beautiful red rope across the door, and a kind but firm security guard.
They were managing their capacity to make sure that the experience was a great one.
The learning….
You can create a beautifully clear boundary.
For you - so you can manage your capacity.
And for others - so they get a great experience from you.
So, if you are feeling overwhelmed by the number of people wanting your time, energy and attention (especially if, like so many of us, you find it hard to say no)…
Try creating a beautifully clear boundary.
Test something out that feels like a gift. For you, and for others.
Perhaps an auto signature, an out of office, headphones… whatever works for you. Technology is a great friend :-)
Where would it be useful for you to manage your capacity?
And how can you let the rope do the talking?
Wishing you all a great week,
