One of the simplest ways to have a more successful day is to start with something that gives you energy.
A workout before you start work. Some fresh air before you settle at your desk. Doing the thing you’re most looking forward to first, rather than saving it for last.
Fuelling our energy first really works.
I have a coaching client who can think more clearly when they’ve been for a run before we speak. Another who feels the difference in the quality of her work when they’ve been for a swim on the way to the office. Another who can tackle important projects when they’ve spent 30 mins on their bike. Another who is more effective when they’ve had a change of scene before working from home.
And everyone can feel the impact when they don’t do it.
It’s such an easy win.
And yet, our brain alway tries to talk us out of it!
It’s full of persuasive arguments - we don’t have the time, we need to eat the frog and crack on with our work, we can do the thing can gives us energy after we’ve done what we need to do, it won’t make that much of a difference…
We feel under pressure to get started and tick things off the list, and tell ourselves we’ll do the hard stuff first and then reward ourselves later.
It’s bad advice, but it so often wins.
So, if your brain needs convincing to let you start the day well, gently remind it that energy fuels action.
That starting with something that gives us energy sets us up for success - to think more clearly, feel more balanced, have a better day.
It’s not a waste of time; it’s a practical use of time that pays back brilliantly.
What sets you up for a successful day?
And can you show your brain that it works better when you fuel your day with an energy boost?
Wishing you an energy filled day,
