How are your energy levels?

A close up of our dog Freddie, lying flat on carpet in low power mode. His face and front paws are visible either side of a wooden post from the landing.

Are they fully topped up? Do you have a zest for life, lots of oomph, up for whatever life throws at you?

Are they running low? Is there a feeling of flatness, a lack of motivation, a little - or a lot – of overwhelm about the challenges that come your way?

As human beings - with all the emotions and responses and responsibilities that brings – we’re going to have ups and downs, days where we feel like we can do anything, and days where we don’t.

Our lives have multiple parts and variables, and we’re not always in control of what life brings to us - or what’s going on in the world around us.

So, it’s normal that our energy levels will vary, but it can also be super frustrating – especially if we have things we want to do! The temptation can be to keep going and push through, or get cross with ourselves for not having the energy that we want.

But often, if we pause for a moment to reflect, how we feel generally makes perfect sense.

And once we understand why we feel the way we feel, we can work with it - or through it - in a way that works for us.

So, if you’re feeling low on energy, take a moment to check in and ask yourself:

Is it something specific? Has something happened to knock you off course? If so, often it’s enough to be able to connect how you feel to it – to “Name it, tame it”.

Is it a signal? Maybe it’s not that you’re doing too much; but you’re not doing enough of what gives you energy? It can be a sign to rebalance and spend some time doing what lights you up.

Is it a set point in a regular rhythm? Perhaps mornings, or a specific day in your cycle is always low power? Tracking energy levels over time can be powerful, so you know where you are in your rhythm, and when it may pass.

Is it a season? Are you in a phase of life that’s going to take more energy for a while? If you can see the bigger picture and the end in sight, it can be easier to navigate through it.

Is it a slump for no particular reason? Sometimes it’s simply a sensation that doesn’t make sense, and that’s absolutely fine. What do you need to take care of yourself while it works its way through?

How are your energy levels right now?

If you check in and ask yourself some questions, how does how you feel make perfect sense?

And what do you need to do to work with it or through it in a way that works for you?

Wishing you all a week of working with the energy you have right now,
