Are you carrying the right sticks?

When our dog finds the right kind of stick in the park he feels epic.

It doesn’t always happen.

He explores lots of options and decides yes or no in the moment - which to sniff, which to test out, which to drop and which to keep.

Sometimes the stick will be too small - not satisfying enough to hold onto for a long time. Fun and easy, but he can lose interest in it quickly.

Sometimes it’s too heavy. You can tell he really, really wants to be the kind of dog that can manage it - esepcially if he’s seen another dog with it! He can struggle on for a bit, but is hugely relieved when he can stop. The stick just isn’t the right size for him.

When a stick is just right it puts a massive spring in his step. Holding it gives him energy, and he can carry it for a long time.

What if we could all be more like this with the things we carry in our lives? Maybe not sticks, but projects, work, obligations, thoughts?

What if we…

  • Let ourselves explore the full range of options rather than picking up the first stick we see.

  • Test things out before we fully commit.

  • Drop the small stuff, let go of the heavy stuff, and fully commit to the stuff that feels epic.

Are you carrying the right sticks?

And what would it be like to drop the stuff that feels too small or too big, so you can feel more epic?

Wishing you all a week of the best kind of sticks,
