What gives you a sense of purpose?

When I work with people around purpose the biggest emotion is often a sense of relief.

That I’m not going to ask them to find their ‘one thing’.

That our goal isn’t a mythical quest that they have to strive to work on for the rest of their lives.

That it’s not (always) about saving the whole world.

Instead it’s about connecting with how we show up, and the impact we have, when we feel a sense of purpose - when we feel ‘on purpose’.

It’s about remembering the times that we felt we were in the right place, at the right time, with the right people, doing what we were meant to be doing.

It’s about identifying the stuff that lights us up.

It’s about exploring the ‘us shaped’ space in the world that only we can fill.

And then it’s about capturing that so we can see it, touch it, feel it - mine is a drawing :-)

The best part of connecting with this is that our options don’t narrow down. They open up.

It’s like when you find a great innovation concept. You know it’s a good one when it feels ‘springy’ - when it sparks a wealth of ideas about what could be done around it.

Our sense of purpose can be expressed in so very many different ways.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by purpose, remember that…

We don’t have to ‘find’ our one purpose.

We can connect with our energy and impact when we’re ‘on purpose’.

And then we can use it to help us shape our direction and action

What gives you a sense of purpose?

And how can you focus on feeling on it instead of finding it?

Wishing you all a wonderful week,
