Are you taking what's magical for granted?

Looking out of the window the other day I saw a green parakeet (and then managed to get a photo!)

Beautiful. Exotic. Magical….

And completely normal for me (we have an abundance of them where I live).

I also walk everyday in Bushy Park, among the deer.

And just a little further afield is the river and Hampton Court Palace with it’s sparkly gold gates.

When people come to visit they are astonished at these sights. Through their fresh eyes they are magical.

And I realise they are so familiar to me that I can take them for granted.

This can be true of our surroundings, and just as true for ourselves and what we bring to the world. So often we can’t see what others find magical in us, because it’s simply a part of who we are.

It’s why coaching can we such a useful experience. It can help us see ourselves through fresh eyes. It can help us appreciate and believe in our own unique brilliance.

By looking back at times and situations that we loved, and that we didn’t love, and looking for the threads.

By reflecting on where we have thrived, and where we didn’t, and gathering the learning.

By identifying how we show up when we’re winning at being us, and the impact we have when we do so.

It’s such a joy to find the magic.

And so often it’s a complete revelation. Doesn’t everyone do that? Isn’t that just the way everyone thinks?

It’s hard to see yourself through fresh eyes.

It’s easy to take magical things for granted.

What feels normal for you that other people find magical?

And how can you see it as magical too?

Wishing you all a wonderful week,
