When I need to reset, one of my favourite things to do is Yin yoga. It’s a wonderful way to stretch everything out, and I love that I can choose from a range of options to match my mood.
Sometimes I want something more structured - being talked through a sequence step by step.
Other times I want something more spacious - being given the minimal possible cues.
In both cases, my brain knows someone else is handling the process and can focus. It’s the same result from different approaches - tailored to how I’m feeling and what I’m looking for.
The dance between structure and spaciousness is a recurring theme in my life and work. Where’s the sweet spot?
How much of a framework and how much freedom is especially top of mind for me right now - in parenting, in planning my day, my week, my year, in what I eat, how I spend my downtime.
And of course, because it’s what I do and what I love - in how I coach and how I like to be coached.
In coaching, sometimes a framework is the perfect fit to help us untangle our thinking - a step by step way of working through something that feels like too much to explore without structure.
Other times free range space is exactly what we need to unravel the threads. We can find our own way through the maze if we can be left to roam out loud and learn as we go.
What we’re looking for depends on our natural preference plus the context, the challenge, the conditions, the moment - one day might be different to the next. There are so many different ways to think and feel out loud.
What helps you reset?
And are you looking for more structure or more spaciousness right now?
Wishing you all a wonderful week,
