When you don't know why you feel the way you feel...

A hand-drawn visual in black Sharpie on a white postcard - an example of a blank Wheel of Life framework, ready to personalise. It shows a circle divided into 8 'slices', with each slice coloured in to different levels with pink highlighter.

Sometimes, when we’re not feeling quite right but nothing is obviously wrong, it can be hard to pinpoint why we feel the way we feel. Something is niggling, but we can’t figure out what it is.

It can mean we go down all kinds of rabbit holes searching for an answer or trying to find something - or someone - to blame.

And we often don’t find it!

So, it can help to have something to put some shape around our self-reflection - a way of understanding why we feel the way we feel without getting lost.

My favourite way to do this is with a personalised Wheel of Life, a version of the classic coaching tool that replaces general areas with our own unique set of core nutrients (also known as our values).

Once we have it, it becomes a brilliant resource to come back to - a way to take a step back and assess what’s present in our lives, and what’s missing.

It helps us separate out all of the different parts, and identify where we could make some changes or different choices.

And even if we can’t, at least we can see what’s going on, and understand why we feel the way we feel. We can stop searching for a reason that doesn’t exist, and take care of ourselves until we can rebalance.

So, if you’re wondering why you feel the way you feel and can’t see a clear reason, try taking a look at your own unique Wheel of Life.

It may not give you all the answers, but it can put some shape around your exploration and point you in the right direction.

Wishing you a week of helpful self-reflection,
