We’ve just returned from a 2-week trip to visit family in the States.
It’s always a special time.
We live in different countries and it’s lovely to see each other, catch up with where we are, see how everyone has grown and changed, and generally be a part of each others lives for a while.
There are everyday moments of connection - the simple pleasures of going to the supermarket together. Running errands, making meals, watching Netflix, walking their dog, putting coffee on.
And there are the sparkly, memory making, moments where we had fun and played together.
A trip to Typhoon Texas to race each other down the water slides.
Tubing on a lake on a sunny day and seeing who could last the longest before being thrown off.
Zip lining through a state park in 106-degree heat.
All 9 of us playing Uno.
Playing Beat Saber - with patient teenagers teaching the adults.
So. Much. Fun.
I now realise just how important fun is to me.
Sharing a fun experience with others.
Doing something just for the fun of it.
Laughing really hard - both with each other and at each other, both at the time and afterwards.
Having fun and being playful can be easy to forget about when the holiday is over.
It can get lost in the busyness of routine, the needs of our life and work.
It can be tempting to wait until the next holiday to experience it again.
But wouldn’t it be brilliant to add a sprinkling of it to our everyday lives?
It’s a part of the mix I don’t want to forget to add in anymore.
And whilst it’s unlikely to involve water sports (I’m strictly a fair weather lake person), I have my thinking cap on for what it could be.
Are you having enough fun?
And if not, how could you add a sprinkling of it into your life?
Wishing you all a fun-filled week,
