Would it be useful to re-read your story?

There are some books I re-read over and over.

The stories are so rich, and each time I come back to them I experience them differently.

They are the same words through fresh eyes. I’m in a different place in my life, and I see them from a different perspective.

It’s the same with my own story, which changes shape depending on where I am in relation to it.

In the moment it’s all about being in the experience. It’s hard to see the woods for the trees.

A little while on and there’s a wider lens and perspective.

After a longer time, there’s a greater context. It’s easier to see some things more clearly - the repeating patterns and themes, the learning, the things it’s time to let go of.

It’s why it’s so useful to reflect on the past when we’re figuring out our present and future.

Wondering why you’re feeling the way you’re feeling? Can you look back at the last few weeks and months to understand what’s out of balance?

Exploring what to do next? Take a look back at your journey so far to see what gives you energy and brings out the best in you - and what doesn’t.

Identifying how to lead in a way that feels good to you? Reflect back on your own experiences, and what you would take - and leave - from each one.

We’re all shaped by our experiences - from the most recent to the furthest back - and so it makes sense to make sense of them.

We can re-read our story to find the insight we’re looking for, and apply it to our lives in the present.

And each time we do, we’ll find something new to learn from.

Would it be useful to re-read your story?

And what would you like to see more clearly from where you are now?

Wishing you the gift of perspective,
